The traditional walk in memory of Toni Caminal climbs Puig Aguilera this year, ending with cava at the Caves Bohigas winery and flights from the airfield.
The “pàjaru” walk 2020, by Jorgina Forrellat.
Yesterday (Sunday, 17 February 2020) was a very special day.
It all began with an invitation and the wish for a different kind of Sunday with a lovely purpose.
As every year, Tere organised the traditional walk in memory of Toni Caminal. This year it meant setting off from the Igualada-Òdena airfield and climbing Puig Aguilera, and so we did.
We all met at the airfield at 9.30 and set out on the walk.
Honestly, I personally enjoyed it like a little girl; the scenery was a constant delight for the senses. The almond trees were already in blossom thanks to this early spring we’re having, a glorious sun and a warm, laughter-filled atmosphere. There’s nothing lovelier than old friends meeting again.
The climb went at a good pace and was very pleasant; on reaching the top we stopped to get our strength back and have a bite, and Manel dazzled us with a glider display. As always, he shone!
Once recovered, we headed towards the Caves Bohigas winery. We came across some very funny geese; they seemed a bit cross, but luckily we were safe!
At the winery they gave us a short explanation of how it works and its history, we saw the facilities and, to whet our appetite, they offered us some snacks paired with their cava. Mmm! Nothing like a glass of cava after a walk.
After this we headed back to the airfield to have lunch all together. Everyone brought something to the “feast.” Afterwards we toasted with cava, grateful for the wonderful day we were having; Tere said a few words and then handed over to Oriol, who encouraged everyone to take to the air and try this sport we love so much. As you’d expect, quite a few went for it and experienced Puig Aguilera from the air. Definitely amazing!
In short, it was a day full of new experiences and a great memory that will stay with us for a long time.
Many thanks to everyone for making it possible — here’s to many more years!
