Jesús Platas makes his first solo flight on a calm late-winter afternoon.
Almost two months into 2018, it was Jesús Platas’s turn to make his first solo flight: the “suelta.”
A fine late-winter day, with spring already knocking at the door. Anticyclonic weather, good visibility, a gentle sea breeze, no turbulence and a few timid little thermals…
The instructor decided it was time for Jesús to fly solo, towards the afternoon as the sun was already dropping. Final instructions and… taking up slack, towing! A few minutes of solo flight and the decisive moment arrives: the first landing without the instructor’s help. He touches down without a hitch and, as is now traditional at our club, the obligatory photos, the instructor pins on the “pilotillo suelto” badge, and congratulations from his fellow members.
We’ve got another one! Here’s to many more happy flights!
