The lad from Valencia flies solo!

Saturday, 22 April.

More good news for the school: another “suelta.” This time it was the student from the Valencia region (“the lad from Valencia”), settled in Barcelona, Javi Olcina, whose turn it was to make his first solo flight, without the pesky instructor.

Early on, the day didn’t look very promising: some turbulence and quite a bit of sea breeze (“marinada,” so typical at our airfield); but towards evening the wind eased and the turbulence let up too. That was when, after one last short flight with an instructor (towed only to 300 m), the right moment came. It was already near sunset and, after some final instructions, Javi took off solo in the K13 and, as in every “suelta,” a flawless take-off, a smooth tow and a few minutes of gliding, capped off with a good landing. And now, to begin the real learning.

Congratulations, Javi, and here’s to many flights!
